Title: Discuss: Ayutthaya on Two Wheels (The Nation) Post by: Christopher Byrd on June 16, 2007, 07:13:09 AM Ayutthaya on Two Wheels (The Nation) (/content/view/30/2/)
The Nation newspaper ran a nice article today about bicycling around Ayutthaya. The mention renting a bike there for B30--that's not going to get you much of a bike. Be prepared for a rickety old Chinese single-speed. If you want to ride Ayutthya in style, bring your own bike or rent one in Bangkok, we don't know of any shops that rent tricked out bikes. Contact us (/component/option,com_contact/Itemid,3/) and we will hook you up with a rental. It's a great ride, cycling around Ayutthaya; in our opinion it's one of the best day rides in Thailand. It's easy to get there from Bangkok by train (see details in the article) and you can go there, ride and be back in a day--easy. True fact: it was after my first ride in Ayutthaya (on one of those crummy rental bikes) that I thought up the whole idea for the Tour de Thailand. It's a place filled with inspiration! Title: Re: Discuss: Ayutthaya on Two Wheels (The Nation) Post by: Christopher Byrd on June 18, 2007, 07:00:49 PM I can really appreciate this article because it was on Monday, August 4th of 2003 that I took the 20 baht train to Ayutthaya for the first time and rented a bicycle for 30 baht to ride around the spectacular ruins and wats of this historical city. That was the day I came up with the whole idea of the Tour de Thailand and spent the entire train ride back to Bangkok writing furiously trying to get all my thoughts down before they escaped me. Thanks to that day and my idea I have helped many people see Thailand from Chiang Mai to Phuket and helped to raise over 3,000,000 baht for the needy. As far as I am concerned, the Tour de Thailand has been a great success already and the future is incredibly bright.
Safe cycling to all of you!
