Tour de Thailand - Bicycling in Thailand Forum

Hi i just wonder if Phuket (http://www.phuket-guide.com/) is also a good place for mountain biking? usually i only do most water activities but this time i want to do a bit more different. any good places there to rent a bike?

I must admit that I have not looked into the matter much in the past due to the fact that by the time we reach Phuket on the Tour de Thailand most of us don't want to hardly look at our bikes any longer ;~) so I have never inquired about riding in Phuket.
However, I am sure there are some great opportunities to mountain bike on Phuket.  I know that there used to be a Phuket Mountain Bike Hash group but for some reason their website is not working at the moment.  Another contact I have is the Phuket Bicycle Club and I am sure if you talk to our contact there he will be able to point you in the right direction for bicycle shops that rent bikes and possibly some other riders to meet up and ride with.  Phuket has a lot of cyclists, at least 45 joined us on our ride into Patong, Phuket last year.

Anyway, the contact we have for the Phuket Cycling Club is:
Khun Serm and his number is:  089-587-7745.  I am pretty sure he only speaks Thai, but after looking at your name I think that will not be a problem.

I do not have an email address for Khun Serm and think that he may not even have one because we usually ask for that first so we can send them messages of when we will be arriving and where to meet us.  He never gave us an email address.  I also don't think they have a website but if you find one please pass it on.  I would try to call him myself but my Thai is very bad over the phone.  My assistant usually deals with the Thai Clubs over the phone.  I can communicate ok in person but over the phone it is so much more difficult.

I use a bike shop run by a guy named Mon. I have known him for 10+ years- he is a very good rider and very much into the mountain biking scene in Phuket. I spoke with him yesterday and he has decent bikes for rent. His phone # 081-535-1231. They often have organized rides on Sunday mornings, but are usually on road.
