There is a great group of people that go mountain biking once a month for a weekend outside of Bangkok.  The group is called the Bangkok Hash House Bikers and the website is:

www.bangkokbikehash.org

There are over 400 active members and it is a great way to get out of Bangkok and see parts of Thailand that you would normally never see.

We go to resorts that are within a 4 hour drive from Bangkok and spend the weekend riding on mountain bike trails, dirt roads, farms, etc. and then we have a dinner party on Saturday night followed by breakfast and then the "Hangover Ride" on Sunday.

After the hangover ride we will often sit in the resort pool before heading back to Bangkok.  The average turnout is roughly 100 people including riders, their families, and friends.

Whether you are living in Thailand or just passing through, I highly recommend that you get out there and check it out.

Rental bikes are available through:

Hi Christopher,

I went to see the website but there is no contact e-mail. Who can I contact to subscribe or how do I book?

And what is the level expected to be part of this biking week-end?

Hi Dens,

I am very sorry that I didn't notice your question long ago.  I missed it completely.  Actually, there is a page on the Bangkok Bike Hash site that is called Mis-Management that you can click on and it will give you a list of all the committee members and an email to contact them at.  You really don't need to join in advance, you just need to make sure that you book a room for the upcoming hash.  There will be instructions under each hash that is listed as to how to book a room, then you just show up before the ride and you can join before the ride.  Getting there early is imperative, especially if it is your first time.  I hope to see you on the Hash.

Cheers,

Chris

June's Bangkok Hash House Bikers Ride

Venue:  I-Resort Cliff View, Hua Hin.

Hares: Paul “Zoolander” Mason, Glen “Camp Gynecologist” Craigie, and John Graham(school permitting).

Date: 28/29 June 2008.

The Rides:
Saturday: Pay Hash Cash 12:20 - 12:50, roll-off at 13:00.  This area has not been used much before on a Hash, and has some new ‘virgin’ riding which will test even the hardiest FRB’s. Saturday’s ride is about 45km with about 40km of dirt track and single track. We will also have a couple of surprises in store for you!!!
Sunday: Pay Hash Cash at 9:30, Roll-off at 10:00. This is a more leisurely 27km including a ride around a lake and around a picturesque mountain, and will offer beautiful scenic views.

Essential equipment:
Helmet
Pump
Spare tube
Water container(s) for at least 2 litres of water

Accommodation:
The I Resort Cliff View is between Hua Hin and Pranburi right on the beach.  While not set in a large area (no camping spots), its location is beautiful, and it has a large swimming pool and excellent, clean, quality rooms. The hotel runs parallel to the beach so the rooms will either have a sea view, facing east, or a mountain view, facing west. There are 90 rooms in all with a mixture of twins and doubles and they should be able to accommodate all requirements. There are 40 standard rooms, so all who want the cheaper option should be catered for.  No bikes are allowed in the rooms or hallways of the resort, a “bike corral” with 24 hour security will be provided. Those who want additional security for their bikes should plan on bringing their own bike locks.

The rooms should be booked directly with the hotel itself, and can either be done by phone (032 572209) or e-mail cliffview@ihotelresort.com (please cc. jungkojika@hotmail.com who is the on site Sales Manager). When contacting them, please quote the Group Name: BHHB -BANGKOK HASH HOUSE BIKERS

For More Information, please go to www.bangkokbikehash.org
