Northern Tour de Thailand 2011 Itinerary
Chiang Mai to Kanchanaburi – 502 miles / 813 kms
We recommend riders arrive a little early to enjoy the many attractions and activities Chiang Mai has to offer. There are plenty of things to do in Chiang Mai and we will be more than happy to help you find what it is you are looking for.
If participants would like to arrive early or extend their stay in Thailand or surrounding countries the Tour de Asia Bicycle Touring Co., Ltd. will be happy to make suggestions and can help make arrangements if needed.
Day 1 - Arrive in Chiang Mai
Date: Sunday November 3
Meals: Dinner
All riders for the Northern section must be in Chiang Mai by 15:00 today in order to join the ride on time. We will meet you during the day at the hotel and invite everyone to dinner to welcome you and help get you prepared for your journey.
Day 2 - Chiang Mai to Chom Thong
Date: Monday November 4
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Distance: 55 miles / 88 kms
Opening Ceremony and start of the Tour de Thailand. After a brief opening ceremony we will ride around the outside of the city walls before heading down the Ping River out of Chiang Mai to Chom Thong.

Day 3 - Chom Thong to Thoen
Date: Tuesday November 5
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Distance: 90 miles / 144 kms
Today is one of the most difficult days of the entire Tour, but not to worry because we will have air conditioned support vehicles for those that want a lift.
Day 4 - Thoen to Tak
Date: Wednesday November 6
Meals: Breakfast and Lunch
Distance: 60 miles / 96 kms
Enjoy the beautiful town of Tak along the Ping River. There is a huge food market next to the hotel with loads of food vendors, fruit vendors, cocktails and beer vendors, coffee vendors, and much more to walk around and enjoy.
Day 5 - Day Off in Tak/Mae Sot (Operation Smile Mission)
Date: Friday November 7
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Today is likely the most memorable and heart-warming day of the tour as we get the very special opportunity to visit an Operation Smile Mission in Mae Sot, Thailand. Depending on the timetable of the mission we will get to see either children screening for surgery, children waiting for surgery, children receiving life-changing surgeries, and/or beautiful children recovering from surgeries that will improve their lives forever. It’s an amazing experience that everyone thoroughly appreciates.
Day 6 - Tak to Sukhothai
Date: Thursday November 8
Meals: Breakfast and Lunch
Distance: 47 miles / 75 kms
We take a little break from heading south and head east to Sukhothai to see the magnificent Sukhothai Historical Park. We enjoy lunch just across from the park so after lunch you have the opportunity to cruise around the many beautiful wats and ruins of the first Kingdom of Thais, founded in 1238. What was once a thriving metropolis is now some 700+ years later a beautiful historical park that you can ride your bike around and take photos of the structures that people built so long ago. If you get hot, simply head back to the hotel for a nice cool dip in the pool.
Day 7 - Sukhothai to Phichit
Date: Saturday November 9
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Distance: 55 miles / 89 kms
Phichit is a pretty quiet town but we have a special trip to an environmentally friendly gold mining site planned compliments of a couple of our main sponsors – Akara and Kingsgate.
Day 8 - Phichit to Nakhon Sawan
Date: Sunday November 13
Meals: Breakfast and Lunch
Distance: 73 miles / 117 kms
Visit the Giant Buddha and hilltop temples or Nakhon Sawan Park. There is also a large shopping plaza and movie theater in case you miss the “Western World”. Nakhon Sawan is considered the gateway to the North of Thailand and is where the Ping, Nan, Yom, and Wang Rivers meet to form the famous Chao Phraya River that flows to the Gulf of Thailand.
Day 9 - Nakhon Sawan to Singburi
Date: Monday November 11
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Distance: 83 miles / 124 kms
Today's ride is a long one with many scenes of Thai life along the Chao Phraya River. Singburi isn’t a very touristy town so be prepared to get some attention and smiling “hello’s”.
Day 10 - Singburi to Ayutthaya
Date: Tuesday November 12
Meals: Breakfast and Lunch
Distance: 49 miles / 80 kms
Today we will once again visit an ancient capital of the Thai people, only this time we will be arriving in Ayutthaya. This will finalize the Northern Ride and we enjoy a day off to visit some of the many sights to see in the area. Tonight we will say goodbye to friends both new and old with a dinner party as we wrap up the Tour de Thailand Northern Ride.
Day 11 - Personal Glory
Date: Wednesday November 13
Meals: Breakfast
Total Distance: 502 miles / 813 kms
We say goodbye to some and others will continue on with new riders on the Tour de Thailand Central Ride.
